Itinerary: Meet your guide at JR Mitake Station, take a cable car that climbs over 400 meters in just six minutes to reach the “village in the sky” (831 m). Walk through a nostalgic Oshi village, where traditional hospitality has been practiced for over 500 years. Climb 330 stone steps to reach the worship hall of Musashi Mitake Shrine, standing for over two millennia. Guests can choose either Cultural Course: Learn the folklore of the sacred Japanese wolf (okami), OR Shugendo Course: Trek about 1.5 km (approx. 1 hour one way) to the Oku-no-in, the ancient sanctuary deep in the mossy forest—an opportunity to feel the serenity once sought by mountain ascetics. Lunch and Cultural Exchange: Enjoy a traditional meal at a shrine-run Shukubo (temple lodging), featuring seasonal local dishes such as handmade soba noodles and kamameshi rice. During lunch, engage in conversation with the Oshi family about history and tradition. Rock Garden Hiking: In the afternoon, hike the famous Rock Garden trail for about three hours. Wander among moss-covered boulders, clear streams, and sacred waterfalls once used for ascetic training. Tea and Souvenir: Take a break mid-hike with mulberry-leaf tea and Japanese sweets. Receive a handcrafted bamboo sake cup as a commemorative gift. Cancellation Policy for Tours and Arrangements 30 days or more before the start date: 10% cancellation fee (to cover handling and arrangement costs). 29 to 15 days before: 30% cancellation fee. 14 to 6 days before: 50% cancellation fee. 5 days to 72 hours before the start: 80% cancellation fee. Within 72 hours before the start: 100% cancellation fee. Notes: All refunds will be made less any applicable bank transfer fees, credit card/PayPal transaction fees, and currency conversion losses. Services booked under nonrefundable conditions (such as train tickets, museum tickets, admissions, certain hotels, or special activities) cannot be refunded regardless of the cancellation date.
